Harry Reid Buying Sen. Landrieu's Vote in Health Care Bill

E-mail Print PDF

Hidden beautifully in the Senate health care bill is a provision to increase Medicaid subsidies to "certain states recovering from a disaster."  As Majority Leader Harry Reid is prying for votes to reach the 60 he needs, one Democrat that hasn't made up her mind yet is Senator Mary Landrieu of Louisiana.  The vote is scheduled for 8pm tomorrow night and the Democrat's are scrambling to make sure everyone is on board to pass this trillion dollar bill that includes a public option, but won't cover Nancy Pelosi's botox treatments.

So what does Harry Reid and his cronies do to pass this bill?  He adds a provision on page 432 that explains any state "during the proceeding seven fiscal years" that has declared a "major disaster area" will receive $100 million in Medicaid subsidies.  Of course, this only applies to one state - Louisiana!

This is the most blatant attempt to buy a vote to pass a bill that should have at least 80 Senator's voting for it to pass.  Nationalizing the health care industry, about 20% of the GDP, should require more than a partisan vote that will only grow government and redistribute not only wealth, but year's of peoples lives.

This is the modern day Louisiana Purchase.
