Since the failed terrorist attack by Abdul Mutallab on Flight 253 heading for Detroit this Christmas, authorities have been working to see exactly who this terrorist is and how he was able to board an airplane. Â Interestingly, the radical Muslim was the son of a very prominent and one of the wealthiest men in Africa, Alhaji Uma Mutallab, the former chairman of First Bank and Nigeria's ex-Federal Commissioner for Economic Development. Â He knew his son was heading down the wrong path.
Abdul Mutallab attended school and lived in London. Â During Ramadan, he showed his strong religious beliefs by not joining fellow classmates at a Disco because it would be un-Islamic. Â In class, he defended the 9/11 attacks as an act of war, saying that it might not have been necessary because there were American troops on Saudi soil. Â This should have been the first red flag. Â Teachers also recall Abdul Mutallab defending the actions of the Taliban.
His family encouraged Abdul Mutallab to take a postgraduate degree in business studies in Dubai, hoping that the cosmopolitan atmosphere would prevent him from becoming more extreme. Â He didn't follow-thru and told his family he found an alternative course in Yemen that would take several years to complete. Â He then told his family he had found a new life and was breaking all family ties.
British authorities refused him a visa, not a Master Card, in May after they found he was trying to attend a fake college course. Â It was after this that his father reported his son's suspicious activities to the U.S. Embassy in Nigeria, Nigerian security and the Saudis. Â His family said their last contact with him was in October when Abdul Mutallab was in Yemen. Â In November, he was placed on the U.S. Terrorist Identities Datamart Environment - a terrorist watch list of about 550,000 names. Â He was never viewed as dangerous enough to be placed on the 4000 member "no-fly" list.
Abdul Mutallab claimed he had been instructed by al-Qaeda in Yemen to detonate the device, which was activated by PETN, or pentaerythritol, but failed to destroy Flight 253. Â Al-Qaeda is a constant threat to freedom and America. Â Maybe now President Obama will stop calling terrorism an overseas contingency operation. Â Islamic extremism will not stop until they are the only religion left on the planet. Â That's a fact, no an opinion.
