The waiver game is over! Last Friday, the Health and Human Services (HHS) department posted their last monthly update on how many companies received Obamacare waivers. The result, 1,231 companies received waivers. Translation: roughly four million Americans or three percent of the U.S. population get an exemption from the government takeover of the health care industry. Since the bill was rammed into law against the will of the American people, the White House has faced some backlash over the waivers, which have primarily been given to their Democrat allies in the labor unions. But the waiver saga didn't make too much press thanks to the liberal media handling the blocking and tackling. Obamacare is unconstitutional, as are the waivers.
A quick reminder: Obamacare waivers are designed to hide the true impact of the law. In total, 96 applications were denied, but an explanation as to why isn't provided. Judging by the actions of this White House, one can say with certitude that it's due to politics and nothing more.
Under the waiver program, companies can keep their annual benefit limits in place until 2014, whereas non-waiver recipients are required to gradually raise their benefits and eliminate them completely in 2014. Obamacare has fundamentally disrupted the business climate in America, forcing business owners to halt investments and the hiring of additional personnel because they are uncertain how much the law with financially impact them. They know it will be big, but just how big the impact is unknown.
From The Blaze:
Because of the backlash over the waivers, HHS announced last summer that it would stop accepting applications for one-year waivers and would simply grant or deny waivers all the way through the end of 2013, according to The Hill.
The total of 1,231 includes all of the waiver requests HHS granted — companies that only applied for a three-year waiver, companies that got a one-year waiver and an extension, and companies that received a one-year waiver but did not ask for an extension.
A total of 96 waiver requests were denied by HHS. Why the healthcare law couldn’t be “flexible” for those 96 requests is anyone’s guess.
“The final total is actually lower than the last monthly update. Earlier in the process, HHS had been granting waivers to a type of plan that it later decided should be completely exempt from the restrictions on annual limits,” Baker writes. “HHS had granted waivers to almost 500 of those plans before exempting them altogether.”
Obamacare is destroying the American economy. Although it's called health care reform, it has absolutely nothing to do with health care. It's about the government getting in-between the individual and their doctor; it's about controlling the individual. Nearly everything that's been dismissed as a lie in Obamacare will turn out to be true.
